This layout built by Buck is an O gauge (1:48), with 30” spacing between the rails (In real life). The main line which runs along the front of the layout is built to the specs of the Florida narrow gauge organization so that this layout will adapt to their module layouts at shows and open houses. Buck wired the layout so that the ‘main line’ can either run with my module or can be switched to run independently with other narrow gauge modules.
The Martin County Mountain Railroad is a fictional narrow gauge railroad that was developed by Henry Flagler. It was located just west of Stuart, Florida, in an area that included a small rise in elevation where gravel could be mined. This gravel was needed in order to provide the roadbed material for Henry’s Florida East Coast Railroad track that he was laying all the way down to Key West. It was a small operation with only 2 locomotives, an 0-4-0 Porter and an 0-4-0 diesel powered “critter”. The layout includes an abandoned fishing camp, a hobo encampment, the gravel tipple and power plant, and a freight and servicing area.
